Mentoring is a great way to leverage the skills, attitudes and behaviors of our people to continuously improve the performance of others.
It is a mutual learning partnership in which people assist each other with professional and personal development through such things as coaching, role modelling, business counselling and sharing knowledge.
Furthermore a formal mentoring programme across the Smiths' businesses enhances communication channels and allows networks to be built.
You may decide to become a mentor for a variety of reasons. For some it is about giving something back, for others it may also be as a development opportunity. As a mentor you will drive the relationship so you will need to be clear about what you wish to get out if it. All Smiths Mentors are required to participate in a development programme that continues for the duration of the mentoring relationship.
To enter a mentoring relationship as a mentee you will have identified with your manager that such a relationship will assist in answering your development goals. You will be required to participate in a development programme that will initiate your entry into this relationship.
To find out more about the Mentoring Programme view the Smiths Group Mentoring brochure.
To enter into a mentoring relationship as a mentor or mentee discuss with your manager and/or your HR Business Partner how you believe it will enhance your development and support your learning goals.
